More hiring for Software Engineers as Airtel plans product innovation

The survival of the fittest was never seen to be more true than the current scenario of ever increasing competition in the Telecom Sector. With Reliance Jio having captured a major portion of the 4G Internet Market, it’s nearest rival Airtel Bharti has come up with a different strategy and as per recent news, the Bharti Airtel has disclosed it’s plans to increase its strength of IT software engineers because they want to focus on the research and development of it’s products customized according to customer’s needs. As 55% of it’s engineering arm are software engineers, the company focuses on making more customer-centric products that will capitalize on its data network in India.

What do the Chief’s say?

The Global Chief Information Officer Harmeen Mehta told Economic Times that Airtel boasts of a young team and we have given them freedom to express their thoughts and try innovative ideas that will lead to efficient utilization of inputs and company culture will lead to disruptive innovation enabling Airtel to enter markets while performing brilliantly in the existing one’s. According  As per Ma’am Harmeen, Airtel will also continue its high investments in over-the-top or OTT applications. It already has applications like Airtel Movies, Wynk Movies, and self-care app MyAirtel, which now hosts payments bank feature along with a new dialer and a cloud storage service. “These apps are continuing to see investment,” She said.

She also said that Airtel provides various services to millions of subscribers such as Airtel Broadband, Direct to Home TV , fixed line telephone and wireless services and moreover, the company sure has loyal customer’s. Hence, Airtel can capitalize on it’s existing customer base with it’s innovative products and services. Moreover, according to Ma’am Harmeen, the next two years will be important for Airtel.

Is this another step to counter Jio ?

The above mentioned hiring plan by Airtel Bharti can be seen as another step to compete with it’s current arch rival Mukesh Ambani’s Jio. For example, as Reliance Jio is offering a combination of digital applications which includes Video on Demand, music streaming and LiveTV, that comes as combo with it’s 4G services in India. Hence, Airtel also plans to capture the smarthome segment with it’s M2M solutions and IOT.

Why Innovation is a good Idea

In this ongoing price war of tarrifs between different telecom players like Airtel, Idea and Jio etc, the companies need to think differently for surviving in the competitive telecom industry. Although customer’s want products at lowest possible prices, but the quality and innovation cannot be ignored. Hence, the customer’s once entrust their faith in a particular brand will never shift to a rival company’s product even if they have to spend more from their product. The reason being their satisfaction with the quality of service provided. The positive thing with Airtel is that their one of the best network’s in the country. The call drop rate is low and they  have network in almost every corner of India. Hence, we can wait to see what’s next in offering from Airtel Bharti. Let’s expect the best from one the best.
